What is a Virtual Pedagogue?
|
A virtual pedagogue is not a pedantic lecturer, but rather, a cyber guide!
For example, Laurence Wilson, the lead consultant at Virtual Pedagogue is a virtual pedagogue. He has been tracking and applying eLearning software and methodologies in organisations in Europe since 1986.

A virtual pedagogue® is a guide through cyber space, taking learners to subject matter experts and fellow learners as well as helping trainers to reach their audiences. He or she helps everyone involved to focus on the core task of learning and applying essential knowledge, employing the latest technologies without being distracted by them.
Today, the word pedagogy means the whole art and science of teaching – from the Greek word which literally meant “to lead a child”. It encompasses the design of learning in its broader, adult sense.
The virtual pedagogue® is someone who facilitates the learning process online, helping learners and teachers use appropriate technologies to enhance, speed up and extend learning opportunities. This unique service is available to commercial and public service organizations, academic and training institutions, in fact, people of all ages and circumstances who have access to cyber space at home or at work.

In ancient Greece, the pedagogos was the slave who took the children to school. He wasn’t a teacher. He escorted the children safely across the city to the schools where they were taught by the eminent academics of the day. Along the way he became a mentor, a moral guide, a friend and a tutor, making sure no tantalizing or dangerous distractions sidetracked the children.
